Hollywood And Bullets
The other night I was watching one of the Matrix movies and there was a scene where Trinity is shot and Neo tries to save her, he scans her body with his matrix vision and sees the bullet, then proceeds to stick his hand inside her, grab the bullet and pull it out. My reaction to this scene….. WTF? Why does Hollywood perpetuate this myth that the greatest danger of a bullet wound is having the bullet left in the body and that it has to come out immediately? In reality, bullets tear and rip flesh, muscle and tissue, break bones and sever arteries, the bullets physical presence in the body after it stops is not a great danger. I love watching movies where the hero digs around in the wound track and pulls out the bullet, I always wonder, didn’t he just cause more damage to the victim, not to mention the chances of infection that he just upped by about a million percent. It’s even better when after he removes the bullet he “cauterizes” the wound, now he has a bullet wound, an infection, a 3rd degree burn and he’s sealed off the wound track so it can’t drain and all the puss and crap will fester inside the already infected 3rd degree burned bullet wound. Good job Hollywood.
