The Boondocks

One of the many things that really sucks about Iraq, no television. Sure you've got AFN in the mess hall, but you can only take so much Fox News or CNN. When you have down time there aren't very many ways to pass the time, you can go to the gym and pump iron with the muscle heads or you can watch movies. Each FOB has at least one local national run movie store where you can get anything from movies still in the theater state side to full seasons of any TV show. I chose to pass the time by watching entire series, one of them was "The Boondocks." I had no desire to watch this program, I am not a fan of Aaron McGruder's comic strip, I don't agree with his political views, and I naturally thought that the cartoon would be more of the same. Shortly after the DVD's started making their way around the Company everyone was spouting lines from the show and I felt left out, so I borrowed the Discs and watched it. The show is nothing like the comic strip, it is actually very funny and entertaining. My favorite characters are Ed and Rummy (who are voiced by Charlie Murphy and Samuel L. Jackson) two over privileged white guys who give veterans a bad name. This is one of my favorite bits, they manage to combine Samuel L. Jackson's great Pulp Fiction rants with Donald Rumsfeld's awesome "known unkowns" speech.
